Message from Director’s Desk

Let me begin with congratulating the students for considering Bengal Institute of Technology and Management (BITM), Santiniketan as a destination of your engineering education. Santiniketan has the distinct identity of culture and heritage, which gives the place a unique soft touch. Santineketan was previously called Bhubandanga (named after Bhuban Dakat, a local dacoit). Tagore family came to be owned this place. Rabindranath Tagore’s father Maharshi Debendranath Tagore attracted by the beuty of this place and established Santiniketan in 1863. In 1901, Rabindranath Tagore set up a Bramhacharya school here, which later came to be known as the Patha Bhavan, the school of his ideals, whose central premise was that learning in a natural environment would be more enjoyable and fruitful. After he received the Nobel Prize (1913), the school was expanded into a university. Many world famous teachers have become associated with it. Indira Gandhi, Satyajit Ray, and Amartya Sen are among its more illustrious students. Now you are able to understand thatyou are blessed to be in an area which bears the footprints of a Noble Prize Winner who was a great academician, philanthropist and the brain and the heart behind this place.

The term ‘Technology’, being essentially generic throughout the world acquires a new rationale in the context of Bolpur, Santiniketan. In this age of globalization many small ventures have emerged to be big. The small town of Bolpur, Santiniketanis now dazzling in the map of Engineering Institutes of the country. Bengal Institute of Technology and Management, Santiniketan the first Engineering College at degree level in the area of Bolpur; Santiniketan has been 16 successful years of journey since we started this Institution in the year of 2001.

The District has been contributing in its own subtle way towards the overall growth of the State as eminent personalities from the District, from diverse fields of life, have been catalyzing its development process. Education has always been the prime component of development for the District. Rabindranath Tagore founded “Shantiniketan” here to spread his concept of education through Visva- Bharati University. Likewise, Bengal Institute of Technology and Management, Santiniketan has been the pioneer in providing quality technocrats from the District.

The objective of the Institute is to induct scientific insight and technological knowledge in the new generation, and at the same time, to see that young learners follow the rich cultural heritage of the nation. Our Institute believes in the philosophy of benevolent governance. Our dedicated, highly qualified, efficient, committed and fully trained panel of faculty members are friend, philosopher and guide of our students to develop their skills and conceptual understanding. They educate the students with both technical expertise as well as effective management skills required to successfully operate and consequently rise in any industry or corporate sector. They also help our students to become good human beings with rich values. Departments have multiple states of the art of workshops and well-equipped laboratories. The library is structured to provide academic support to the students at different tiers. This is being achieved with large number of books, large number of National and International Journals, Digital Library, best of e-Resources like, IEEE, ASME and books under Book Bank Scheme.

The Institute came into existence through earnest dedication of a number of Educationists, Philanthropists and Social Workers from the District.

MULTIPLE EDUCATIONAL AND MANPOWER DEVELOPMENT TRUST, the parent trust behind the shaping of BITM, Santiniketan was formed by eminent personalities and also other distinguished personalities from the area of Bolpur. Sri N.R.Datta is the present chairman of the above trust. The trust has entrusted the Board of Governors to function as the highest decision making authority of the Institute. At present, the Chairman of BOG is Prof.(Dr.) S.M.Chatterjee, Former Vice-Chancellor , Bengal Engineering & Science University and he is responsible for the administration of Bengal Institute of Technology and Management, Santiniketan along with the members of Board of Governors.

The College has been able to build up a large infrastructure, with the sufficient space for Library and Laboratories, Workshops and other facilities to the students so that their personalities can blossom forth in its rich abandonment. Situated in a beautiful locale adjoining Santiniketan and spread over a campus area of around 10 acres, with pleasant hostel ambience, the Institute provides an ideal platform for academic excellence.

The Institute is honored to achieve NAAC Accreditation during 2011. Presently, BITM, Santiniketan is engaged in imparting technical education at Diploma in engineering,Under Graduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) Degree level(Affiliation under MAKAUT) with approved intake as indicated below, in the branches of:

At present with total student strength of close to 1500 and more than 80 regular faculties, the Institute is trying to achieve all round development to be among the best in the State. The team of faculties also includes eminent senior Professors from JU, IITs, NITs, IIEST, Shibpur are coming to this Institute as guest/visiting Professor or as academician/expert of a visiting/inspection team.

A good environment can also sustain a better soul. Along with these, availability of high speed Broadband Internet connectivity, Wi-Fi facility and Centralized Computing Facility, with most advanced Software, makes it possible to acquire basic engineering education and fulfill research aspirations of the students. We have also firmly announced “Anti Ragging Declaration” in our BITM campus. Fully developed hostel facilities have been made to accommodate most of the students, while providing protection to freshly admitted students through totally segregated hostel, with an ambience of ‘Zero’ tolerance to ragging.

Our Training & Placement Cell is successfully functioning and quite encouraging.
